Should I choose WordPress, Webflow, or something else?

When you’re getting a new website, one question almost always comes up:
“Which system should I choose — WordPress, Webflow, or something completely different?”

There are many options, and it can be difficult to figure out what fits you and your business best.
In this post, you’ll get an overview of the most popular platforms — and my take on what makes the most sense both in the short and long term.

🧩 What’s the difference between the platforms?

When comparing WordPress, Webflow, and other platforms (such as Wix or Squarespace), the main differences come down to how the website is built and maintained.

  • WordPress is the world’s most widely used CMS. It’s flexible, fast, and can be used for everything from small presentation websites to large online stores.

  • Webflow is a newer, visual design tool that combines design and code in a single platform.

  • Other systems like Wix and Squarespace are more “ready-made” all-in-one solutions, but with fewer customization options.

⚙️ WordPress – the flexible solution

WordPress is popular because it offers freedom and full control.
You own your website, can move it freely, and extend it with thousands of features through plugins.

Advantages of WordPress:

  • You own 100% of your website — no lock-in

  • Flexible and suitable for almost any type of website

  • Easy to update and maintain

  • Large community with plenty of help available online

🎨 Divi Theme Builder – a visual option within WordPress

Within WordPress, there are different themes and page builders that allow you to build pages visually.
One of the most well-known is Divi Theme Builder from Elegant Themes.

Divi lets you build pages using drag-and-drop directly in the browser, which can be convenient if you want to update text and images yourself.

However, it’s important to know that these builders often add extra code and features, which can make a website heavier and harder to optimize.
That’s why Divi is best suited as a user-friendly solution for smaller projects — not as a replacement for a fully custom design.

🚀 Webflow – modern and design-focused

Webflow is a very modern platform where design and functionality are combined in one system.
Everything is built directly in the browser, without plugins or complex technical setup.

Advantages of Webflow:

  • Fast hosting and visually impressive design

  • No need for themes or plugins

  • Ideal for creative businesses and design-driven projects

That said, Webflow is more closed. If you want to make major changes later, you’ll often need to go back to a developer.
It’s therefore best for those who don’t want to maintain the website themselves, but want a unique design with minimal technical involvement.

🧾 What about Wix, Squarespace, and similar platforms?

Wix, Squarespace, and other all-in-one solutions can work well for small projects.
They’re quick to set up but offer less freedom and fewer options for growth.
Over time, they often become more expensive and harder to move away from if you want to upgrade to a more professional solution.

💡 The best long-term solution

If you want a professional, fast, and flexible website, a custom-built WordPress website is often the best choice.

A tailored WordPress site without heavy themes or unnecessary plugins provides:

  • Better performance

  • Higher security

  • Fewer errors and update issues

  • Maximum usability — for both you and your visitors

In short, you get a website built specifically for your needs — and one that can grow with your business without forcing you to start over.
